Slant 6 to 383

My brother has a 1976 Dart Swinger currently with a slant 6 in it. He knows he needs a different transmission (he has one) to put in a 383 big block but is wondering what type of motor mounts he needs, if he needs a k member, and anything else to switch the engines?

it can be done with the slant K but would be best to swap the K frame you can use any V8 K frame , block or spool mount type .
Schumakers engine-swaps.com will have a mount kit even using the Slant K if you want to

ok cool thanks, and besides the k member being modded i have a good 727 trans with my 383 rebuilt, will everything fit properly or will any other major mods need to be done ? headers or stock manifolds, trans relocated, driveshaft, radiator clearance with the fan, card and hood clearance, tranny tunnel??? or just the k member and engine mounts? Thanks guys...

There was a factory manifold for the late 60s darts but they are hard to find & cost more then headers , so I would recommend TTI headers they have the best quality & fit , Driveshaft will work If the car had a 727 or 833 in it before , otherwise with a 904 /999 trans it will need to be shortened 4", the trans will bolt on the factory mount & no major mods , it should clear the floor easily & the shift linkage should still work , assuming it was auto trans , although the cross shaft if it is column shift may have to be modified to clear the headers .
There are shorter clutch assy for the fan if you are close , the Jaguar application is the one I always use .
Schumakers lists the kit so you do not even have to change the K frame , I was not sure when I originally posted if theyhad a kit for the later A body .

The K member is the exact same as the v8 other then the engine mounts and sway bar/torsion bars you should be good for an engine swap. You might also have trouble clearing the power steering pump and or brake master cylinder with stock manifold. I'll have to use special headers, don't buy them untill you see clearance though.

The 727 should fit good if its automatic, might need linkage adjustments.

Good luck!
