1967 Dodge Charger transmission tunnel-should I walk away

I am looking to buy a 1967 Charger that was originally born with a four speed transmission according to the data plate and Maxwedge.com. The trans and shifter are out of the car on the garage floor and the engine is on a stand.

There is a poorly cut-out section of the trans tunnel where the shifter mounts(see attached photos). The Seller , who owned a restoration shop, is suffering from dementia and his daughter is selling all of his cars and misc. items, so he can't tell me why the cut-out is there.

If he bought the car like this then he may have had intentions of welding a new tunnel for the 4 speed floor shifter. I can't imagine anyone butchering a trans tunnel like this. Even if you had an automatic trans and wanted to convert it to a four speed, one wouldn't cut the floor like this. It looks like a hammer and chisel was used!

I see that Classic Industries has a replacement sheet metal(out of stock) for a four speed shifter for this car. How difficult is this to install or should I walk away from the deal?

Hard to walk away from a ‘67 Charger. If the rest is good I wouldn’t worry about it. If the underbody is good and if it has good glass and trim, I’d grab it.

Dan and Iowan, that is good enough for me. When I get her in my garage I will share the photos of the car on this site.

Thanks
