1971 GTX Motor Option
Hello,
Looking at a 71 GTX with 49K. Car seems to be original. Has original window sticker. Car has 440-4 TNT motor not the standard Commando motor. Window sticker shows this as original to car. Does anyone know if GTX's made production with the Chrysler TNT 440? Car was manufactured 10-70. Is it possible that there were a lack of Commando motors for the early production units? Has anyone ever heard of this? Will try to attach a copy of the the window sticker, if possible.
Thanks.

I think maybe the air cleaner pie pan has been changed. Plymouth got the 440 Commando designations, Chrysler cars got the TNT designation. Both the 71's I've had were Commando engines, and the 70 GTX I had that was close to if not the last one built was also a Commando engine. There's no difference in the engine itself, just the name plate on top.
Bubby, just in case you didn't know... there were only about 2900 1971 GTX's made, total, and it was the last year of the GTX as a seperate model. From 1972 on the GTX was just an option on the road runner. There were like 1900 1970 Superbirds made.... you're looking at a very rare car.

Window Sticker
Thanks for the reply. I guess the thing that confuses me is why the TNT motor option is listed on the factory installed window sticker. Not sure if you were able to enlarge the pic I attached, but it is clearly listed as code E58 440 V8 TNT. Would you know of anywhere I can check to see if in fact this car was built like this? My problem is the seller has no other paperwork other than the window sticker.
If your having a hard time reading the pic I posted, please as me to send you a picture that you can enlarge.
Thanks.

O.K. So the Plymouth window sticker says 440 TNT. According to what was said on your post on the other site, this is how all 440 E86 plymouths came through. It should still have the Comando pie tin on the air cleaner. Like I said. I never knew the E86 440 TNT was on the window sticker this way. Makes ya wonder if Dodge also did this. We live and learn huh? Looks like you have a rare car there. Gonna pick it up? Pictures would be appreciated.
We would love to have a look
