318 poly intake

Hey guys just want to know what i would also require if i go ahead and buy a 318 poly 4bbl original intake (single carb)? i found one for $200 is it worth it? Casting number is 1859229... thanks.

It's worth it if you need one. They are getting harder to find...

Ok what kind of carb can i put onto that? Do i need an original? Do i have to change my cam?

Depends on what you find. I'm sure a few of the older ones only had the so called narrower bolt pattern for the early Carter style, but you can buy an aftermarket adapter even for those, that would allow putting a Holley on if you want. If you found a later aftermarket Weiand or something, it probably would accept both bolt patterns. Even so, if you wanted to run a spread bore carb, you can get adapters

Just one type of spread bore adapter. Notice the 8 mounting holes. This illustrates the two popular 4 bbl mounting patterns. Some early manifolds had the narrow pattern, typically for Carter AFB or on smaller engines, even smaller carbs
