440 493 STROKER KIT OIL BOSS AND PICK UP CLEARANCE ISSUE
Hey guys, I am building a 68 440 with a 493 stroker kit large h-beam rods, everything was going in great until I got to the final assembly and found that the #5 piston rod was hitting the oil boss, ok so after reading some similar issue it was clear that I needed to grind down the outside of the oil boss area to clear the rod end. got that done with and put in the internal oil pick up tube (1/2") just to find out that same rod hits the tube! Should I grind down the side of the tube? what is the best approach?

I went ahead and did a photo bucket thing so here is the link to the pics and the password for you guys is 493stroker in caps i think. I will be adding the pick up tube issue in a few.

Thanks for the reply, Dimpling it is exactly what we did. We used a large hammer and a small socket extension as a dimplier but it worked it made the tube a bit rough at the top of the threads but using a small grinding wheel and a file we were able to smooth out the dimples, we were able to get .020 space out it, should be plenty I would have been happy with .010 so good to go.. The next challenge was fitting the oil pan 7qt deep center sump no worries though minor cut inside the lip of the pan at the center part and it fit over the tube fine. Here are the pics on photo bucket feel free to watch our build as we progress. I have to say the 1/2" pick up tube from 440source is made very well solid like a piece of iron and nice to see the windage tray made in the USA! Try the photo bucket again I made it public.
