Chirp chirp

Was warming up my Charger (440/4 Speed) and I noticed a rhythmic chirping that got increasingly louder. It went away when I pushed in the clutch and came back when I let it out (in neutral). Any ideas?

That's what was thinking too, but why would it make noise while under no load but then quiet down while engaged? I was ready to order a new one today but decided to post here first and get a reality check.

Ok, I'm calling Summit now, update with my findings asap. I've got transmission swaps down to 2hrs 45minutes due to several recent trans failures. Not sure I should be proud of this.

Not M.T. 883... Problems I hope.... But if that the case.... You might need to look into the Passon Performance / GFI Tremec TKO Trans Swap..And you will get an Extra gear..lol

Yep, blew up my 18 spline 4 speed. Third gear lost all it's teeth in a glorious exit from a gas station. Had it rebuilt 4 times locally (thank God for warrantys) and then it ended up at Passon's. Total tally was $2400 but in hindsight I should have thrown in $1500 more and got a five speed. Next time.

So roughly $3900 gets the Passon TKO 600 5 speed?

I have no idea, really. I was referring to the Keisler RS600 (now discontinued).

Holly Mollie Dude....... You must have some very serious horsepower... Or 4 speed just hate you??????

Back in the old days I had one of my Mopar Trans's in a 1 back halved 1955 Chevy Belair with a built 427 putting out about 800HP and running 10.0's, I think he only blew it up one time in 400 passes... And that car left @ 6,800 RPM's.. And Had an Olds Diff with a 4.88.. And we didn't have as good of parts as we have today....
That TKO trans has some hard azz steel in it, And if you tore that thing up.... Wow is all I can say..... Your going to need a Bruno trans....lol

I'm thinking it's tire technology as I doubt I'm putting out north of 600HP. Also, I shift freakin' hard and fast. My car weighs 4000# w/ me in it and it hooks wicked hard (unless I don't want it to). Jamie Passon hisself told me this transmission is borderline for my application. The pin is pulled and I'm giggling.

The recessed socket bolts that hold the shifter adaptor to the tranny are overtightened and now stripped. This is why I never let anyone else work on my car. I'm thinking of trying heat, but should I heat the bolt head, the aluminum adaptor, or the tranny case? I'm conflicted with thermal expansion properties of the three types of metal here.

Word. Been there, done that. But these fasteners are recessed in an aluminum adaptor, inaccessible. I'm actually considering breaking the adaptor apart with a hammer and chisel and just buying a new one.

if u heat u have to heat around the bolt that aluminum will heat up faster than the steel should turn right out.

my britripped the teeth off his 4spd in his 340 dart i have pics of what used to be third gear.

I second that you heat up the casing around the bolt. Heat it. Work in the bolt only for a bit then back off. The bolt will also expand as it reaches the same temperature. Wait until it cools down and start again. Multiple heating/cooling cycles will also work in your favor as the bolt and casing will expand and contract at different rates.
Patience...

Mike.
