Question couple off the wall? 's

Hello.
I'm looking at a few big blocks to choose from for my ratrod project.
a 76 440 n 727 Congo out of an Rv is one of em.
I know the Hp n tourque rating is kinda low on em and ive never had a bb in a project before as its always been a sbc. But....will a lets say 250 Hp big block Chrysler be good noticible feel as far as performance? Or will a sbc with 400 horses blow it out of the water?
I'm asking because ive always heard that a big blocks power n tourque is very noticible as compared to a small blocks.
I guess I'm just wondering is Hp just Hp or does it feel n come in different on bb n sblocks?
tnx....RR

Torque is a function mostly, of the overall engine build AND THE STROKE

Since you can buy some "big ***" stroker kits for small blocks, much of this gap has largely been closed.

The big difference in a so called "RV" engine will be the top end and cam, along with compression ratio. If you just want a torqu'ey street engine, and as long as the RV engine is not a "heavy truck" engine IE the ones with the "high mount" water pump which connects to the fronts of the heads, you likely can put a little more cam in there with a nice aftermarket 180 degree intake and make a pretty snappy budget engine. Good manifolds or headers and duals. After that comes better heads, and higher compression

A factory 440 is 3.75" stroke, a 318 is 3.3" and a factory 360 is 3.58" but a 408 stroker kit brings a 360 out to a whopping 4" stroke

Sweet.
Its goin in a light weight rat rod. Is the truck motor bad because of the way the water pump is set up or due an issue with the engine itself? Im asking because i havent set up a cooling system yet and can make whatever style work. tnx...rr

I'm sure the heavy truck engines are heavier, but the thing is, the heads and water pump are DIFFERENT. You would not want, example, to put a bunch of money into the heads and then have to round up another because of a crack or other problem

Also, the heat crossover in these heads is NOT exhaust as on light truck / pass car engines, but rather water. I would guess that aftermarket manifolds would be a problem. If you got one of these engines cheap enough, you could use essentially the shortblock and put different heads on. It would be fairly low compression.
