A cummins powered fury

Ok so here my insane idea for when I get back in aprilish .
1-buy a first gen dodge diesel.
2- trailer fury to new base
3- swap engine from truck into fury
4- have a diesel fury that when I'm done will hopefully get mid20's and 400+ horses and torque

So let me have it. I'm thinking universal cummins kit gearvendor o\d and single turbo.

Holy ******* weighted down front end!

Cummin motors are huge, heavy beasts that will crush the front end. BB torsion bars are not strong enough to support the weight of these motors. If you want a diesel powered Fury, install a TB4 diesel. Much lighter, its a 4cyl Cummins, and they can be had for probably cheaper.

Good call on the suspension. I was thinking the motor couldn't be heavier than a big block. What about beefing it up though? Aren't there some HD front suspensions you could basically bolt on

firm feel suspensions does HD suspension for a race application they sell thicker torsion bars and other components but they dont have an email so i could ask about what im trying to do. i guess ill have to research the 2wd trucks and figure out the components and how strong they need to be... i really want the 5.9 over the tb4 because of power potential and reliability

ok came across this. someone has at least talked about trying it.

also after looking at the specs and my true goals. (a great mpg highway cruzier/ daily driver that will last 300,000+) 78D200 seems to be right.

i was wanting to match the power and torque of the diesel chevelles i keep reading about. but the duramax wieghs about 200-300 lbs less and isnt as bullet proof as a cummims 5.9

Another thing about diesels is that they are not a high revving motor. 3500RPM, maybe a little higher and that's it........ I know you said highway cruiser but every now and then you're going to want to stomp on it.

A good diesel shop can turn a TB4 into a good little power house for you. I know that guys around New England have been swapping TB4 motors into their jeeps for years just because of the torque they produce and their size make them easier to get in.

They are all over eBay for 1000-3000(with trans)

And you make a point for wanting to stomp on it. That one reason why I was thinking 5.9 those motors will get up and go just as good as any BB. But then I hit the front suspension issue.

Is anyone familiar with building suspensions from scrap? What if I gutted the front wheel wells and "essentially" put a ram suspension.

I'm trying to contact a few custom shops round my house to see about it. There is one who specializes in full custom vehicles from interiors to everything but idk if ill be able to afford their work yet

So as of now house of hot rods is gonna take the car in about 3 weeks and give me the estimate for 6bt and 4bt since they will be doing the majority of fabrication of the suspension. I'm very excited about this since its been 10years coming.

They are also excited because this is a type of project they have been itching to do.

Thumbs down Disappointment: money is the source of evils

We do too lack there of. The cummins will be delayed. How ever I will breath fresh life into the car yet. Ill have the motor freshened up and add power brakes all disk conversion and swap the grill for one from a 65 it will still make a great thread for c body lovers. And I appoligize for the let down but it will be revisited in years to come. Maybe after my re-enlistmant bonus in two years:banghead:

What did they say about the swap itself minus that it would cost you two left arms, four kidneys, a heart, 6 eye ***** and your first born?

Did you ever find out the weight of a 4bt? Maybe its a swap that you can do yourself if it weights the same or less than a BB.
