Dart progress

For those of you not up to date, I had a knocking noise develop so I decided to pull the engine back out for a look.

The engine comes out the bottom far easier than in from the top.

We found a couple unusual things then we got it out. First, cylinders 5 and 7 had oil puddling on top of the intake valve. This is bizzare because we checked the plugs several times and never had a fouled plug issue. Now, after finding the oil, both cylinders have fouled plugs. It is a dry intake (no coolant or oil flows through the intake) so it cannot be leaking past the usual intake gaskets. Tomorrow we will pull the pan and look farther.

Here is the engine on the floor with the body coming up:

A buddy helping me:

Here it is on the new dolly/carriage i made:

I'll keep you posted.....

Pulled the pan and valve covers for a peek. Nothing. Everything looks fine. I know there is a bad bearing someplace but it looks like a good tanking/cleaning and a new set of bearings and i should be fine. I just need to know ,now, what caused it so it doesn't happen again. If it was just a bearing fail, that is unfortunate because there is no way to be sure.

Took it to the machine shop on Friday. He told me they would have it open and let me know what happened some time Monday.

Waiting...Waiting...Waiting...Argh, this is killing me.

I ordered all the parts, so it was built to my spec's, and this shop did all the machine work (overbore, align, gap rings, install cam bearings, etc) get the tolerances correct and assemble the short block. I did the rest. I can't hold them responsible for parts (I provided) only hold them responsible for incorrect machining. (tough to prove)

Still nothing, I should probably hear something today, maybe no news is good news.

And how can a crack like that happen? Frozen and cracked over the winter?
