Endless money and 340 ?'s
Im not saying I have endless money....as I really would like to!
But if you guys had a clean 1971 340 and tons of to build a nasty motor, what would you guys do to it...besides supercharging or procharging lol
I cant seem to figure out what to do and what combos to make.
Forged pistons or not? Intakes? STROKER KIT????? Bore??
I mean the possibilities are endless with these motors, maybe that why I love MOPAR
Come on guys dream big and give me somthing to shoot for!!
I want a BAD *** motor to put a hurtin on my chevy counterparts

Stroke it Stroke It what is it going in?? Bore it to what you have to. The sky is the limit its your build you tell us what you want the outcome to be. HP wise. Are you going to do the work or have it done??? A good speed shop/ engine builder will be able to help you decide on cams, bore, pistons, etc...

I want it to be a street car and only hitting the strip about twice a year.
At LEAST 400hp at the motor.
I would be doing most of the building besides port and polishing heads and intake.
Any name brands I should be looking for, Heard aftermarket MOPAR brand stuff is not super good. At least when I GOOGLE it lol
Should I do forged flat top pistons??

400 at the motor can be done at home for small budget. You are going 60 HP over 1HP per CI and that can be accomplished with off the shelf items.
Keep the stock small block. Forged pistons are NOT needed but will work fine. I would use HyperE piston if the bores needs opening. Lighter weight, less slap etc..
Best flowing heads for small block were Mag heads. And they will get you to 400 HP. But used ones are rare and can crack.
You can use RHS, EQ, or Eddy. The first two will allow you to use light valves and will GREATLY help your RPM.
Do some research on hydraulic roller vs hydraulic camshaft.
A great head and roller will put you over 400 HP.
Going this route will give you a lot of choices in camming for your use vs camming to make the HP mark. She will make the HP with several different cams.

Thanks alot! Yeah I started doing some research on the hydraulic cams and such but for my purpose I didnt see the big advantage with doing one or the other. But somewhere out on GOOGLE a few people said that hyraulic cams are for their wives car lol
Dont really know what to think about that, but I am still researching.
I dont want to big of a cam to where I lose power brakes under 1200 rpm...Any ideas/specs to get me good power without sacrifcing good drivability

Hydraulic Roller cam is the way to go. I would even through in some 1.6 roller rockers. Go for high lift and lower duration. My roller 340 had a 530-534 lift roller cam and it was a beast.

Stock cam was silly small. .42/.44 with 210/220 duration. and it still made good power. Dakota guys are using this stick with more lift and making 300 at the wheels all day with magnum heads.
If you do a bigger head Comps 268 will work excellent, specs at 224/230 in the .47/.48 range. typically makes 370HP with headers, cleaned up stock heads and an air gap. She will bump some.
If you roll it the 268 retro stick will spec 218/224. It is an awesome cam with 250cfm heads. I've used it in 360s with good heads and it has a slight bump but no lope to it and pulls good vacuum. 14-15 lbs. Comes on like gang busters at 4000 rpm. Yet is streetable off idle for around town stuff. I think comps only charges 25 bucks over retail price to cut the cam to your specs so once you have a head and rocker arm you can get exactly what you need. Some will say the 268 specs out small but with good low and mid lift heads you don't need a ton of duration to hit your goal so why live with high rpm motor if you don't need to.
