Hey guys, so car was sputtering a bit yesterday, again...took it to my shop, had em adjust the carb and within five minutes I stalled out. I tried starting a few times with my foot mashed to the floor (per mechanic) and realized when I got home and popped the hood that yellow fluid, assuming gas, was all over the inside front of my air filter which was 2 days old so it was pretty obvious. Any problem with this or is it another "that will happen" I keep getting form my shop.

Sounds like your carb may be gummed up, fuel is on inside, but should be going into intake, so something is forcing it in the wrong direction.

Possibly the jets, was it sitting?

 

No, from the time I left the shop to the time I got home it was running, well, untill it stalled. But never was off more than a minute or so. It did sit at the shop for about 10 minutes, but that was after a little drive there, the car was stalling then too.

 

sounds like somthing is sticking carbs tend to get gummed up even when there are in use

 

Foot to the floor to start is to draw in more air drawn in w/ less fuel.

I would agree with the guys and say something is gummed.

 

OK, I will get it checked out. The carb has only been running a couple days now though, would it get gummed up that quick?

 

l you could of had somthing floating in your fuel that got stuck in there

 

x2 That may be from overflow from the bowl vent tube. I suspect high float level. **** in the tank got stuck in the float valve, and not letting it close completely. You do have glass float-bowl plugs for this, right? A must-have.

 

Sounds like the carb at least needs a good cleaniing and maybe a rebuild..
Also sounds to me like you may want to find a new shop. I don't know your relationship with them. Seems to me thay should have tested it and then continued to look for the problem. They charged you to fix a problem and they turned a screw and sent you on your way. You mentioned they told you that will happen? Not usually. Most problems have a direct cause. If you need to mash the peddal to the floor it is because it has flooded, and you need more air to get it to fire. They told you to do this after they fixed(?) it? This says they knew they fixed nothing, cause they didn't know what was wrong, or didn't want to work on a carburator. Tough to find a shop these days that understand how to diagnose with out just plugging in a computer and changing parts. I hope I am wrong but it seems more common the older these cars get. Hope you get it sorted.
