Ok brief story, put topend back together after had edelbrock heads gone through. After adding fluids, atifreeze was leaking from both side between heads and block. This is why I pulled it apart the first 3 times, #1 put new head gaskets on.# 2 new headgaskets and bead of silicone,# 3 new headgasket_$600 of head refinishing. Now when I was turning engine over after adding fluids to adjust valve, squirt out of #6 of straight antifreeze all over firewall. WTF stupid stroker, any ideas of whats wrong? I know I got to pull the engine but just fishing. Thx

did you deck the block?

 

when torquing the heads down, did you follow the pattern?
one side to the other?

 

gun in the mouth is a bad idea to many people get the angle wrong & take there face off only to live & look like a Mongoloid .
it seems a 12g to the forehead is much more reliable .

Cracked head ,when you put the head gaskets on you put them on dry to the block and head ??? or did you put silicone ??? never put silicon on head gaskets that #1, # 2 is the torquing spec is diffrent when using alum heads, the touq should be in the boxs with heads ,and if i rember right there are two diffrenent bolts you have to use. hope i was helpful let me know how it turns out good luck

 

Are you using a stud kit or regular bolts to attach your heads? Have you checked to make sure the bolts are not bottoming out? If this is the case, they may not be able to clamp down enough for proper sealing. There might be crud in the bottom of the bolt holes as well, hopefully you ran a tap through all the holes to clean them up. If the block and heads have been machined, the bolts may be too long. Studs are always a better choice, and make lining things up during installation much easier.

If there isn't a problem with the bolts, take off the heads again, and check the deck surface (heads and block) with a straight edge. If the surfaces are flat, there should be no gaps between them and the straight edge.

Don't use silicone on head gaskets! In the old days people would spray the gaskets with "Mexican chrome" (silver spray paint), which improved the seal, but this isn't necessary on modern gaskets.

Make sure that the surfaces of the block and heads are absolutely clean and dry during reassembly, and follow the proper torque sequence.
