Hmm, Paint?

Well I've been checking around and I have a few connections with spray guns from their shops, compressors, ect, but the paint.. hmm

What should I go with on a Paint brand? Was thinking Dupli-color "Paint Shop"

mopardrt May 17, 2010 12:10 PM

its all up to you, what kind of paint you use and what brand rather it be a single stage base coat or a clear coat finish, the price is significantly less if you go with the single stage base coat as to it is way cheaper and easier to fix scratchs and what not when you dont have a clear coat to deal with my dart is sprayed with a dupont heavy duty enemal its made from some paint they use to spray airplanes and heavy machines plus back in the day when these cars where built they used a single stage basecoat but theres alot of people that will say the best paint job is a clearcoat

RROriginals May 17, 2010 12:19 PM

Well I have other problems arising now too... I'll post a thread and see what's up.

SCAMP TRAMP May 17, 2010 02:27 PM

lol both Steve & thanks for that info John impressive finish to say the least

RROriginals May 17, 2010 02:32 PM

Eh a few weeks for that process, I'd need to find a place to keep it until it dries.

72RDRNR May 18, 2010 09:20 AM

Someone here did the rolled on paint. It might have been last year, but I couldn't find it. Think it was alot of work but cheap and I think it turned out pretty good.

RROriginals May 18, 2010 09:29 AM

Yeah but my only problem is finding a place to put it to paint it.

Either method and you will still need a place to paint it...If you read the whole article/thread on the roller job, most paint will dry enough in 12-24 hrs.... its the prep time, and dust control thats the hardest on ANY paint job....
Just my .02 cents worth....

RROriginals May 20, 2010 02:08 PM

Yeah, I have some ideas on what to do, I'm getting a carport, going to wet the walls and floor and pray to whatever God is there that little to no dust gets on, but my life is pretty free now... I took care of some things.. but all in all I hope I'll be happy with how it comes out.

Polaradude May 20, 2010 06:52 PM

luckily with the roller, there is enough sanding to take care any errant dust.

Lol @Fury. No I'm not using Krylon. I'm using legit Paint Shop coating. I might just do a gloss black.

gloss black is very kool.(if it belongs to someone else) have you owned a gloss black car? i have never again! take alot of time every speck of dirt shows up. if its not strait every dent shows up.

RROriginals May 20, 2010 07:54 PM

Hell I have nothing more to do in life really haha, so I guess I'm going to paint it within a week.

RROriginals May 20, 2010 08:00 PM

Well I'm stuck with paint, Gloss black, Purple/Maroonish, Inferno Red or Apple Green.

1966sportfury May 20, 2010 09:32 PM

[quote=RROriginals;45284] Purple/Maroonish, quote]

i think that would look good on your car!(with black out hood) got a paint chip to show?

1966sportfury May 21, 2010 05:49 AM

im not trying to tell you what to paint your car im just trying to help.

RROriginals May 21, 2010 04:50 PM

Ideas are ALWAYS welcomed, I'll be starting the paintjob this weekend!, I'm going to have pics from the day it's on the flatbed, to the brakes, paint and interior being done!

Flammopar May 27, 2010 04:42 AM

I painted mine in my garage. Picked up the paint at the local paint shop and did it over the weekend. Saturday i did the blue, then sunday I did the airbrush work and clear coat on it. That is after spending two weeks preping it.

78D200 May 27, 2010 04:54 AM

The prep work is where you really need to focus. If there are any panels that have a slight defect, you will see it after you paint it. Preping the car takes a long time but is well worth it in the end.

Also there was someone on the board here who did the roller job on his car and it came out looking great. Anyone remeber who that was or have that thread handy?

78D200 May 27, 2010 04:57 AM

Found it!

It was the orange Charger I think "johnthegoalie". I seen a artical in Hot Rod Mag last year on roller painting too. step by step instructions.

Sgt. Veteran May 27, 2010 05:04 AM

Watched my neighbour last year do a roller paint job, looked great if driveway sealer is your thing, yes tar driveway sealer, a month later after it hardened and all the Nevada sand had blown over it I called his Mavrick "the 60 grit" lol then it got really hot and yes his drivway is covered in tar drips
