12 gauge. The sound of racking it alone will clear the bad guys out of your home. I use my 1911 with a mag of .45cal hollow points.

12 gauge. #6 if you have children or others in the house. .00 buck else wise. Keep it loaded, hearing one being chambered alerts the bad guys to where you are in the house.

no children in the home, if there was we would NOT have any guns i the house. no dogs. but i DO love dogs. its just me and mom. and ill need to find a place to see how it works. i know a guy that can help with that. keep it loaded? to me there is NO other way to have a gun. an unloaded gun is just an expensive club. i am thinking how important is to have a big magazine? or a back up gun? thanks for the info.

12 gauge is the way to go. They offer some now intended for home defense. They are nothing fancy with a short barrel. The racking sound alone is effective and serves as a warning so you don't have waste ammo on warning shots.

Good point on ammo vs wall penetration.

I would much rather have a tazer so then you can play with him/her for awhile. Every time they get up you hit them again... You might as well have some fun with them.. A shot gun is very messy and there is a lot of collateral damage.... Bill

Yeah go with the taser that shoots the electrodes into the bad guy. That way you can set the taser down and they'll just lay there and shake until the po po get there. Only one problem.. They might pee themselves getting lit up that long. (Cleanup, but easier than a 12 ga.)

The biggest problem if you don't kill him/her they will sue you and more than likely win... If there dead they cant testify and your story is all they have to go by...Bill

Good idea to check local laws before buying a firearm for home defense.
In N.H. we have a Stand Your Ground law, and my grouping @ 20yds is less than 5" (smaller than a human head") with my .45...so no worries up here.

in KS we have SYG to. but if you dont stop when the danger is gone you get in trouble. to just scare the bad guy a way it just makes him more inbolden. and if he is dead on my floor thats less blood on my floor . here is the way i see it. my house---MY rules!!!!!!

We here in F.L. Have the same + castle law ....
all the sugestions here are.No. 1
but.use your home strategically.
what I meen by that is , several well placed wepons in your home too give yourself a defensive edge !
With your most leathle weapon at your side ...bed room/,Lazy boy/on ur hip/hid in ur boot...ur options are as endless as ur situation .
in feudle japan the war loardes forbid the commoner to posses wepons let alone to trane in any form of martal art.
so the farmers and other independent tradesman turned their trade into a martial skill or a way to secretly trane.../ hide there wepons in plain sight ...or not plain sight .
a home with well placed wepons "of stealth" my prereference, and the will too use them is key to fending off a home invaision.
in most invaisions a none leathal wepon is needed ... just surprise on ur part if u strike him in surprise or "Pull the Rambo" strike on the intruder ..
They will either be inconpasitated or running down the road in total shock and pain and maybe a bit wiser for the trama ..which will always play against them.
But I cannot emphsise enough the will too use the wepon with out hesitation
u never know at what hour the thief will come ... u can be anyplace in ur home or property when you will have to defend / protect .
Base ball bat , walking stick, 1/2 " / 3/4 "..in diameter piece of pvc pipe can really beat ahome invader to a black and blue mess a few other sugestions
COLD STEEL.COM
TRI STAR .COM
.....dinner is callin. Wife is servin so I will add more later srry for the spellin an stuff im typin this from my phone
if u nd private training contact me personaly

the true essences of a martial skill is to... protect... U have a duty to defend .

Nothing maintains your privacy and security like a dead skunk placed wisely on
your property. They're really cheap and can be found on most any country road.
Use the wind direction for proper placement and keep a healthy supply of Febreeze
on hand. In some cases people have reported a "bonus" effect to this method
because all she ever did was nag, complain and withhold - you get my drift.

Katie is real good, we shoot with these folk all the time. You need to go and shoot some local USPSA matches locally and learn to shoot on the move under duress. Handguns with glasser frangible 45acp ammo b4 shotguns for home protection is the way to go.

my dad was an MP in ww2 CBI. he told me the ONLY thing i am to say to a police man / woman is "yes sir", "no sir" " i dont know sir". in 65 years i have found that it works very well. and the police i have been around have done their job the very best ever. i DONT know what that kids problem is.
