I guess it's time to show my new project
I was told that speed is a drug and once you have some, you always need more. Here is "more".
I decided to build a car that will be a strictly track car. I have always built my toys to be street driven as well as track cars, and unfortunately they have never done as well at either as I would have liked. To get it to be fast enough, it wouldn't be as "streetable" as I wanted. To be "streetable" it wouldn't be as fast as I wanted. So I decided this time to give up the street driven part of the car and build something that would be fast.
Here is the latest project:
Shortly after getting it home, gutting it started.
The sawzall came out...
Time to see if the tires will fit, Wow what a big hole!
Time for some measuring,
Starting to look better.

The Dart is alive and well, it is not going anywhere, it still may see track time once in a while but will mostly be a cruiser.
I have a healthy 360 that I will be adding a turbo to. Looking for about 650 HP. The race weight for the Daytona is shooting for 2250. That is ver ambitious but I am going to try. I already have the 14 point cage for it, fuel cell, 9" Ford rear, window net, gauges, bunch of small stuff, wheels & tires, almost everything but the trans. I might go with either a glide or a 904. I am leaning toward the glide but the expense may push me to the 904. There is a lot of welding and fabricating to do, I am looking forward to it! I'll keep posting pictures. and keep you updated.

Progress pictures. The doors got gutted this weekend and rear frame rails were fabricated and welded in place. The rear sheetmetal is about as gutted as it will get and next will be the tubs and some floor pans. The cage is just about all cut up and notched, but is still not finish welded until we are done inside.

I hope this weekend to have wheel tubs in place, and the rear floors fabbed up and roll cage welded in (except for the drivers door area) and the seat mounted.
Does anyone have a 904 rebuildable core available cheap.

I agree.... But one thing for sure.. They are getting harder to find.. I have two spare cores for the DP and three 727's for the Barracuda... But getting harder to find every day......

Time for an update. Some more pictures.
This is with the factory glass still in place. I have added small support bars to support the lexan that will be replacing the factory glass. I fabricated these against the factory glass so that when the lexan goes in, it will be supported at a position the same as the factory glass. Obviously wheel tubs are in place and the rear bars are welded in now.
The wheel opening have been stretched to accept the 33x10.5's on 15x14 wheels. The ride height should be pretty close to this (about 5.5 inches off the ground at the rear of the rocker panel, and about 3.5 behind the front wheel)
Door bars and main hoop as well as the "A" pillar bars are all in. These are straight and the tubs are not leaning! it is just the perspective with this camera phone. Drivers side bars are staying out until the inside is done and the wiring, plubing etc, I'm too old and too fat to keep climbing over these bars if I don't have to.

Been a long time since I was able to get back to work on the Daytona. Thought I would post up some progress pictures. There has been a lot of welding that really doesn't show but there is some progress there as well.
This weekend we gutted the engine compartment and lowered the car over the engine. The engine still has to be built and detailed, but we were checking placement and space for fabrication of motor mounts. I also located a turbo it is huge and I am tring to find a good performing place for lacting it as well.
As soon as everything is mocked up and welded, it can go to paint and final assembly can start.
I'll keep you posted as this progresses.

The firewall is cut, I needed clearance for the trans and the back of the engine. The core support is cut mostly for easy access, I will be replacing some bracing in that area when everything is in place. A lot of work but it is enjoyable. I am anxious to get it to the paint stage. The fabrication is nice but seeing it all shiny in fresh paint and doing the final assembly is what I really enjoy.
