If you run it too rich and get a backfire you can pop a muffler, I have done it. But it usually indicates some severe problems with either fuel delivery or valve seating.

you can blow a muffler off
same way as GM's could blow the exhaust manifolds off with their cold air induction into the exhaust
but, thats another story
