k-frame for Hemi
k-frame for Hemi
I have a 1967 Plymouth Belvedere with the standard K-frame. I am going to install a 426 Hemi and I have heard that the k-frame is different ? can someone tell me what they are ? can I weld in different motor mounts and use the same k-frame I have ?
The easiest way to do this is to keep your current K frame and use conversion motor mounts if available. Schumacher Creative may have what you need if your car currently has a V8. Remember, you will probably need to change your torsion bars if you currently have a small block in the car. But you can keep your current k frame.
I agree with Finoke. You can buy mounts for your K frame that are meant for a hemi conversion. The Torsion bars for a hemi are firmer and easily changed out. After you shoehorn that elephant in, you'll have a cool ride!!
There’s something to fabricating your own mounts, I’ve never bought any from any source but have seen the problems written about them on the forums. Usually the transmission mount is a given so you have a place to start from there it’s just getting the engine transmission square in the chassis with about 4 degrees up in front. You can bolt everything together before finalizing your mounts and welding. I would recommend sandblasting the K member and repairing it as needed, all cracks and broken welds. One thing I believe the Hemi K member has a small skid plate on the cross member so don’t forget that.
good luck , have fun
