Looking for some advice on dodge's tbi

Hey so I'm looking to buy a car/truck now because my only vehicle is my 74 roadrunner so im looking for a daily driver, something that will take me 15 mins to and from work and is reliable. The thing is, I'm just getting out of college so I'm on a tight budget, like less than $1000 tight. So being a mopar guy, I want some sort of mopar so I was looking at trucks. I like the 80s look of dodges 1/2 tons and am not a big fan of the 90s even though i know the magnum engines are way better and such. My question for you guys is where would you direct me? Does an 88 318 tbi 4x4 truck for $1000 sound like a deal? Are tbi systems reliable/nice or will they give me a headache? I live in Minnesota so pretty much everything is fairly rusty and expensive. I guess if I have to I could go for some rice machine or something. What would you guys recommend?

You are on the wrong road, leaving the wrong gas station, and about to run the red light

Forget brands, and forget cool. You need a DD to get to work. Look for a car that is a "good buy" that's in as good as shape as you can get for the money you have to spend and go with it, whether a Toy, Nissan, Neon, or what. You SAID "car or truck" and you immediately limited yourself to a gas hog of a 4x4 truck

Are you nuts?

Well like I said I would only drive like 15-20 miles a day so I'm not terribly concerned with gas, especially because my last vehicle was a 02 suburban that got about 10 miles/gallon. And I'm not limiting myself to just trucks but I was looking at cars under $1000 and that was one of them.

I was in a similar situation to yours some yrs back. I found an 86 diplomat for under 1000 and it got me to and fro for 3 yrs with minimal repairs. You should be able to find a diplomat or a fifth avenue for a thousand out there and they actually get decent mileage for v8 cars. In my opinion stay as far as you can get form 4 banger mopars whether a mitsu base or chrysler/daimler based, they are all junk. The new dart engine is the first 4banger chrysler has had outside the old omni/colt motors of the late 70,s that chrysler has had thats worth a dang. The mitsu and neon motors go through head gaskets like toilet paper.

Like 440 said you need to just buy a car that will last you a while and save your money to buy what you want... The name of the game is to just get to work on time and without problems... Being a new employee you want to get there on time work for your promotions... Good luck...Bill
