MODERN WHEELS???

Question:

Why are most of "todays" wheels so 'flat'?

Back in the day (60s-70s) "Mag" wheels wre usually very deep or concave.

Remember the "turbine" and "5-slot" styles? You dont see them much. The 5-spoke 'Crager' and 'Daisy' style also had nice set-backs.

Most of todays wheels are flat face where the wheel is almost flush with the rim. An exception are some of the BMW wheels.

I guess it has to do with backspacing (which is til a mytery to me).

The current 5-spoke MOPAR rims are slightly concave, but not like the olde dayzz..

I always loves the look of the Turbine and Turbine II wheels although I am sure they are a bitch to keep clean.

Mike

Well fer' one thing TOO MANY guys "back in the day" put great big wide deep wheels on their cars and then had ta jack the HECK out of the rear, IE those stupid "extended shackles" to keep the fender lips off the tires

The best example of a worst example I could find:

The horrid things hanging down in the rear, typically "Cal Custom" extended shackles

My old car, in about 1973. You'll notice it is NOT all jacked up in the ***

The black car is from Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (loved that movie) The driver had the exhaust routed inside the car. And a trunk full of rabbits..
