Sounds like your water pump seized, if the belt/s are off can you turn it by hand ? ( the water pump pulley )

watch for antifreeze leaking around the base of the head now, the 2.2 and 2.5`s are notorious for blowing a head gasket when they overheat too many times. youll smell antifreeze burning from your exhaust first then itll start to sputter when you accelerate, that means the antifreeze is getting into the cylinder, if you take the plugs out and theyre wet and smell like ant-frzz. then you know whats up.hopefully it ddnt get that hot.
