new cars have MPH limiters?
#5
In some as far back as at least 1996, maybe even further back. I know I shut one (not mopar) to a coast until about 60 mpg then came back. Company car and I was asked to take it out and see what it would do (great job at the time) it was fast and then I thought I blew the motor!
I had not seen the limiter up to that point. Most, if not all have it I believe

old guys like me do NOT trust electronics. mostly cause we cant SEE what is going on. in the old days you can see the water dripping from the model A water pump. but when you cant see electrons its hard to trust them. sure i make electronic projects , i went to electronics school, i use computers a lot.. BUT when they dont work. that takes all fun out of it. AND dont forget the electrons DO know what color the wire is. HA HA

Joe... I know on the black and white units,(Crown Vic's) they move the limiter up quit a bit in those ECU's.... We do get quit a few that come in with a check engine light on, and when we scan them, it says "rev limit met and excessive egr flow"....lol

Most of the cars have a rev limiters and some use the VSS to shut the spark down at a pre determend MPH. The factory set is usually around 110-120. The stock SRT8 & RT Challengers/Chargers are now unlimited and the Challenger SRT8 6.4L just did 178mph in a 2 mile run The fastest was the new Mustang at 192 MPH but cost $30,000. more than the Challenger...That works out to for each MPH it cost you $2150. if you want to play you gotta pay...Bill

Car speed limiters are set at what tires the car comes with when new. Whatever the tire speed rating, the car is set accordingly. Their are tuners that can change this to whatever you want. The SRT's have Z-rated now and I think W-rated before, which is why the limiter was removed. The limiter on a Chrysler product consist of fuel cut off. They turn the injectors off above the set speed and back on below it.

Your right it is the injectors I just reread my post and dont know why I said spark...(brain fart )Yeah wouldn't that be a shock to the driver when it came back on and blew the exhaust off from fuel loaded cylinders...LOl...Bill
