OBD II scanners, what works?

Hi guys! Turns out I'm starting to do more work on the newer cars for others than I am on my RR. I'm to the point where I can justify the purchase of a professional OBD II scanner. We tried the auto-zone freebie ****, but it just doesnt dig deep enough into the manufacturer codes. Damn near everything is an O2 fault! And we KNOW that aint true! I'm not looking for any Snap-On stuff, just a competent unit for a few hundred dollars. Would like something that could get to mopar transmission codes also. While I'm on the subject, anyone have any suggestions for reading ABS faults on an OBDII car? Thanks everyone!

I use a Mac Mentor, but that's probably a bit out of the price range you are shopping. I picked up a cheap ($60) reader/code clearer to use as a loaner, and it seems to be ok but it is just that, a cheap reader.

AutoXray

I have had good luck with the AutoXray brand. Go to their site, they sell direct, might be able to get a reconditioned one at a deep discount.

Ahhh. Irony! I just ordered an Innova 3160 a few days ago! Seems to fit the bill for what I need. It also has ABS ability built into it. http://www.innova.com/Product/FullDe...e-7ee8b2bb9946 this is the info, but not a testimonial. I havent received it yet. I looked at the Actron brand, but the customer reviews were very bad in my opinion. Amazon customer reviews can be very helpful when making a decision. Thanks for the tip on the autoxray though, just a few days late! HaHa!

Yes they can but after seeing a friend of mine get a screaming 'deal' on the Snap-On Solus, and then found out it was only good to 1999 year models, he soon sold it, as the upgrade/updates costs close to 1200.00!! so you need to be wary of some of the "good" scanners....

I bought an ES620 from autophix.com ,the scanner support CAN protocol, easily detects many systems includes engine, ABS, Airbags, transmission, radio, climate control, instruments, immobilizer and so on. so I could do some work on it and check it myself to see what is going on.
