power steering conversion

Got a quick question, don't barbeque me to bad. I have a 70 duster with manual steering. I was going to put power steering on it, do I have to change steering column to or can I use the Manuel one. I read somewhere that u can't. I got to pull it out anyway, so Just wanted some clarifacation so I don't have to pull it twice. Thanks

I've gone the other way several times. You WILL need a column. The manual steering is longer. They make an extension they don't make a "shortener". You will need: Power steering box, pump, pulleys, belt, idler arm, pitman arm, column, and an alignment. All of this can be taken from the donor car.

I'm assuming I can use all duster power steering set ups through 1976. Are any other a bodies compatiatible for This swap and is it really worth the trouble. I've never driven with manual steering I know parked is a pain, but how about going down the road. My 74 duster was power steering. Thank's Guy's.

I drove a 62 Vette for quite a few years that was "armstrong" power steering. It is no big deal going down the road, just takes a little muscle to turn the wheel while stopped or at very slow speeds.

I vote that you can handle it.

My 67 Belvedere originally has no power steering, but a guy who races and had power steering wanted my non power setup because it was lighter. He offered to do the switch for free, so I took it and am happy I did. The non power was not bad, but the power steering is nice for a cruiser. To be honest, I would be happy either way.
