project question

i have found a project car but it has no title. can i still do somthing with this car or should i stay away from it?

call the dmv and ask them what you need to do for title? Some times its not as hard as it looks..

I have taken stuff from the boneyard and titled it just fine..

It all depends where you live. NH doesn't need a title for vehicles that are 15 years old of older. Mass needs a title no matter what the age though.

thanks for all the info. i call the tag office today, any vehicle 1985 or older does not need a title. ...so im good to go on the car i was looking at.

Even if the don't need a title Make sure to run the vin # so no surprises happen

crash 02-21-2012 12:59 PM

is that something the tag office will do? or do i take the vin to a p.d.

X2 you may someday want to sell or trade and the purchaser may live where titles are required,i buy nothing with out a title where i'm at you can't even scrap it with out one.

Yeah same here.... If you have no title you have to cut a car into 4 pieces or more.

Nick & Lou - You can't even apply for a title?

Running the VIN will only tell you of work/damages to the vehicle that were reported. Still a good idea though.

When I bought my roadrunner, the guy at the auction claimed it had a title but 6 months went by and we didn't get one. We used Broadway Title Company and paid $150 to get one. It took a couple of months but you got a title. You give them a bill of sale signed by you and then they transfer it to their state where you don't need a title, only a bill of sale, and they send you back a bill of sale which is able to be switched to a title in your state. So if you ended up selling it to a person in a state that requires a title, all you would have to do is give them a bill of sale for them to transfer it to a title.

I own an auto repair shop.

Any time i have a car with no title, I just put a lien on it.

It is legal to do if you have a business.

I believe you can also do it if you go to a company and have it done.

As long as you have some kind of equity in the car IE: Storage or mechanical work, You can put a lien on it and get a title.

I have done it many times, And here in Indy, It only takes 28 days.

I'm not sure, as a rule i won't even look at a parts car unless it has a title, in my opinion it's not worth the agrivation or money. I know here in fla if you build a street rod dmv will issue a vin # to it i know someone who put a 50s truck body on a 70s 4x4 chassis and did that.
