questions about a 360 to 440 engine swap

I am helping a friend swap his 360 to a 440 (we got the motor out of 1976 motor home) in his 1973 D 100 pick up truck (short bed).

Before we do this I noticed that the 360 oil pan is located behind the cross member and the 440 oil pan would end up in front of the cross member however I do not think this is going to work due to the location of the motor mounts.

The dipstick looks to be another problem due to the the oil pan design as it has a slight contour to allow the dipstick smooth entry into the oil pan

Do I have to change the cross member or get an after market oil pan with a sump in the rear and turn the oil pick up 180 degrees to the rear of the engine?

Next question is will the transmission cross member have to be relocated, I know the drive shaft will have to be modified.

I was reading on here that some guy was talking about the valve cover may get in the way of the master cylinder....is this going to be an issue on this truck?

Will the power steering pump bolt on to the 440 from the 360?

I know this is a lot to try and answer but any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can use a truck pan from a 71-78 d-100 that had a 400or 440 in it. its a rearsump pan like the 360. you can use the 360 mounts on the 440. but i think you reverse the location on the mounting ears, like the 360 the sides of the mount were behind the bolt bosses, but the 440 they go in the front of the bosses.the trans mount should be in the same spot. but the tail shaft is different, in size. longer, and takes a different yoke. you can take the tail shaft off the 360 trans, theyre the same from the body back, then itll work. If the motor home had the center dump manifolds your in luck thats what came on big block trucks. just order a new exhaust for it, if not just put headers on the truck youll save yourself alot of aggrivation later. I agree with scott though , call shmakers first see what they offer for it. then go to town. good luck. dont forget the throttle cable, and the kick down rod theyre different to a big block too.

You 360 driveshaft should work. ASSUMING Both would have a 727 trans Mount and length would be the same.. (truck should have a 727) I would get the Locar or Mopar throttle and kick down cable to work with the 440. Check with Boulcher Performance ? or Summit
