Radiator Repair

I have a 1966 Plymouth Fury III and the radiator has a leak in it(it seems like a fairly small hole). How much would a repair shop charge to fix it(estimate)?

I had a leak in one of the cooling tubes. I just pinched the hole shut with needle-nose. You might get a small jewelers torch kit from Harbor Freight and try your hand at brazing it!

Couldn't hurt at this point, right? Always a good idea to try to learn a new skill.

Solder it. Really easy to do with a propane torch, some flux and some way to get the old brass really REALLY clean.

And I grabbed one of the $180, 4 core aluminum , proper mounts already there for a b-body, off e-bay. It works great, fits well, and seldom gets to more than 10 degrees above thermostat rating, even on the hottest days.

Well, I finally tried my hand at soldering it and they werent just kidding that my core was total crap. The rows crumbled as I tried to solder the holes in them.

Well the $180 for a new aluninum sounds better than $300 for a recore. Unless you want originality. I think your 66 is a c-body and I have read there is a ford explorer radiator that fits. Might find a good one in the junk yards for cheap. Here's the info I copied from a c-body site. Hope it helps.

"a plastic aluminum radiator for '97 through '01 ford explorer with v8. is quite small, core size is about 21 x 23, 2.25 inches thick (two row), It has mounting ears that sit perfectly on the frame rails, and the top mounts bolt to the core support."
