RPM question

So when I have the car in gear and left foot on the brake I can press the gas pedal all the way down and only goes to about 2200 RPMs, she will almost chirp them, and my gas pedal is all the way down to the floor..is that normal or do I need to adjust the carb linkage?

Yes, that is the stall speed of the torque converter.

With the engine off... Open the choke plate all the way ... Have some set on the gas pedal all the way to the floor while you look down into the carb. your looking to see if the plate open all the way vertical... If they, that's good and we move on...

If not, back about 6-7" the cable attaches to a bracket.. us a 7/16 wrench unloosen the nut just a turn or so... Pull the cable back toward the firewall till you just see the throttle lever move on the carb. Stop and then go back the other way about 1/4" and tighten the nut and recheck as described above...

Then we can move on if that dont fix it...

Ok... So we have chatted a little off to the side for you folks that are kind of following... Throttle opens about 80%. Thats good enough to go for me at this point.
Sooooo... That means the motor will only pull to 2200-RPM in the stall... Thats good if that is what the stall is for the converter?

"Almost Chirp the tires".... Thats a fat lady your driving there buddy... It dont chirp till the fat lady sings... Let me tell you !!!!!!\

Will help you get it sorted out....

Sorry Bob I cant follow your technical lingo but I don't let the fat lady go for rides! I think hes not getting wide open throttle with the gas peddle depressed. Both will slow your ride down IMO.

That's not a fat lady Bob, yes it sings and it's so cool you showed a FORD, but at 3200 lbs it's not a fat lady just pleasantly plump!
