Sandblasting???

Guys -

Just got my alternator back from the shop. They said it was "sandblasted". Unfortunately it looked painted and a darker color than the bare metal it was when I brought it in. Yes, the "sandblasted" color does scratch off. Moreover, they said that their sand blasting does impart a color to their work???? All I can think of is that there is a pigment in their media or they are just lying.

Anybody every hear anything of this??? I've had parts sandblasted before, and it was always just taken down to bare metal.

Thanks

Archer

most places use glass bead to blast the aluminum cases to clean the aluminum, thats about it. it makes the aluminum look like it was just casted. idk what they did but i know they didnt use glass beads lol i wouldnt worry about it. if the alt stops working then make em fix it.

Thanks. the alternator is working fine and solved the problem from my electrical gremlin thread. It's more on an aesthetic thing, and it just didn't come back the same color as it when in.

I know there's a lot of new stuff going on now that I might not know about and wanted to see if color coating was part of the "new sandblasting".

Anyway, when I talked to they guys about it, they had already gotten me another alternator with a bare metal finish. I may not like their idea of sandblasting, but the shop is top drawer.

Archer.
