Angry serial numbers on parts

Is there a way to tell, by the serial number on a part, what vehicle it was installed in or where it was shipped? Here's what happened. I needed a new TIPM for my 2011 Grand Cherokee. My local dealer (I'll call them Dealership A) told me the part wasn't produced anymore and they were very rare (which was a lie), but if I could get one they would install it. I find one at another dealership (Dealership B) and they shipped it to me. I take it to Dealership A who said they installed it but it was dead and I needed to ship it back to Dealership B for a refund. Dealership B receives the package and tells me the part inside was an older model of that part (part number on the box didn't match the part number on the part). I am confident Dealership A switched the parts (I've been lied to by them on several occasions) but I can see them saying Dealership B did the switch. I know I'm probably grasping at straws here, but any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rocky

It sounds like you are between a rock and a hard spot. After the fact it’s all you can do is go off what you’re told. I personally would have marked the parts I handed over to be installed so I could verify that I was intact returning parts bought from dealer 2. But like I say it’s all after the fact now.

That sucks to bee put in that position... I think all you can do at this point is call each dealer and ask for the Dealerships General Managers and E-Mail Adresses and e- mail them both so they can dig into what the "Miss Boxed Part" Issue is.. and you should be able to get some type of refund... Maybe not all, but some..
AFTER that you can contact your local BAR " Bureau of Automotive Repair" and file a complaint.

Call these folks and see if yours can be repaired...

Just remember.... The shop is only as good as the Tech that works there..... If he is a idiot.... You cars and trucks will never get fixed.... Just my 2 cents.
