Slant 6 Sleeper

Hey guys, been playing around with the idea of building a sleeper with my brother for a while. Was thinking of doing it with my 76 celica.. but it looks like a sports car that might have some get up and go.

I think we've come to the conclusion of getting a 63 dart or valiant with a 225 slant 6 and building a sleeper out of it. Want it to look like its grandmas car fresh out of the barn. Grease and grime all over the motor surface rust, cruddy interior, crappy dented up hubcaps... everything. That way when someone asks whats in it I can pop the hood and say just a /6. (little do they know its fixing to blow their doors off lol).

I've seen /6's running as low as 9 seconds.. think I even found one running 8 in a little 30's dodge coupe.

Now I imagine it would take quite a bit of money and would be really hard to hide the sound of a /6 running that hot.

I'm looking for some good build ideas for the engine and trans... (4 speed or 5 speed manual no automatic lol). And ways to quiet it down and keep it from shaking the car too much.. or even better sound like its runnin like crap lol. I imagine a stroker kit is a must. We've been playing around with the idea of turbo charging as well... thinking maybe we could hide it under a plate or something. Maybe make a heat shield for the header and try to make it look like a manifold. About the hardest thing to hide I think would probably be the carb. But a bigger carb isn't going to worry a hotshot in 5.0 sh!tstain wanting to win money off a couple boys in grandmas old dart lol.

We want it to be of course as fast as possible. But at the same time look very slow. Be very quiet. Some better ideas candidates for a good sleeper car are welcome. If you guys know of something that would be smaller and lighter than an old mid 60's dart or valiant. Don't want a V8... that's not quite as impressive as grandma's old /6 lol.

Cost friendly would be nice. We don't really have a set budget just gonna buy a car and build it over time. Would like to be running at least 10 seconds in a 1/4.

Hard to hide turbo piping but maybe rear turbo it like some of the kits I've seen.

Man thats a wicked little truck. I didn't even know they made them. All the cool little mopars are over seas I'm noticing.. aside from the colt we dont have many here that are necessarily really cool and really small lol.

And yeah we'll probably have to go the turbo route to get down to 10 seconds with a slant. Would be cool to be able to get there with an N/A motor though. Anyone know of any good builds that might make that happen and let us be more inconspicuous?

Does anyone know where I could find a list of all american vehicles that came with a /6? Wanting to find the smallest lightest one possible.

yep the neet thing was that the / 6 was stock except the 2 bbl carb. didnt loose any MPG. i all so did the same to a 1957 dodge pick up flat head 6. i used a carter 2 bbl WGD off a Kieser flat head 6. and welded a steel adapter. cause the flathead intake was made so that the exhaust part was so i could not drill into it for the 2 bbl pattern. . so i made two plates and cut a tube . to go in between. then welded it together. WARRING!! if you do a mod like this. DO be sure that the carb does NOT jam at WOT. if you over rev one or these stock mopar 6s you WILL wipe out the piston rings.
