Street Demon Carb linkage problem on 440

Ive been working om my 64 imperial for some time now i have pretty much everything hooked up and with in a day of getting it started for the first time. my car was original with a 413 i switched to a 440 bored .30 over. it has the open chamber style heads, Edlebrock performer 440 intake duel plane intake manifold with PN 1904 street demon carb with 1/2" spacer to make everything work. the problem im running into is the linkage is too short cause the intake manifold ish higher than the stock 413 i had by like 1 inch maybe more plus i have a 1/2" spacer so im like 1.5-2" taller than stock. how do i get this linkage to work. it has a metal bracket that originally bolted to the rear intake bolt and the throttle cable was mounted to that so it cant move. and the trans kick arm thing has a spot it sits on on that same bracket but i dont see a way to mount it level unless i bend the trans arm which will make it even shorter i think. as for the throttle cable i screwed out that thing on the end all they way and adjusted it to the max range i can get on the metal bracket just dont have enough reach and its not level if i just bolt it to the intake bolt plus the rear runner is in the way from the intake. BTW its a A727 push button transmission ....... im new to all this carb stuff so any help is much appreciated!

can i just remove the metal bracket? hook it all up and just let it all flop there by the intake?if its connected it will still work? why thy put the bracket there in the first place?

When I first set up the 440, back in 1982, we had to modify the stock bracket, by welding on pieces to the "legs" to make it stand a little taller.

These days, using a Lokar type linkage solves the problem. Several ways to attach it, but you might need a second one for the tranny kick-down.

Go to www.jegs.com and do a search on Lokar throttle cables. The prices vary, depending on what you want/need, and you might even get away with a simple Lokar bracket and your existing cable.
