Title transfer question
Title transfer question
I know I should ask the DMV this question, but since their closed today I figure I'd ask here. I was planning on trading a guy my 72 charger (running) for his 68 charger (not running), everything sounded good until I asked him if it had a clear title. He said it got booted out of the dmvs system and they won't issue a title until the inspector sees that the engine starts, which he says he can do so I can have the title put in my name. But I know cars 35yrs and older don't need to be inspected down here, so I don't know.
Anybody heard of anything like this? I live in North carolina so I don't know how much title requirements vary where you guys live

This maybe late but at http://www.dmv.org/nc-north-carolina...built-cars.php it may help
Just a little extra paper work...
What about old paperwork ?
Get a notorised bill of sale !!!
No record in DMV OK
DMV needs to inspect the vehicle Ok depending on state ? More of a VIN # inspection
Cal has a form that explains how to register a vehicle with No record your state ??

He's saying: the car was originally built in nc and it's actually stamped on the car and the couple who originally owned it died, and the car just sat for like 10yrs so it was booted from the DMV system. Then it somehow made it's way to his shop where he's owned it since January but the DMV inspector won't give him a title for it until he sees the engine starts.
I called the titling DMV today and the woman says some of that story sounds like bs but if I got it I should get a bonded title(which I DON'T want to do) then she told me I should call the theft office tomorrow and ask them about it. I don't know how he bought the car without a title anyway.
If I can't get a clean title I won't bother.Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.

I sold a car to a guy in NC a few years back, and since it had come from out of state, they had to verify the SN with the hidden numbers on the car. Of course the number behind the blower motor didn't match the one in the VIN, and he ended up having to post a bond for a period of time to make sure it wasn't a stolen car. 67 Chevelle that needed a patch on the cowl atjust the right spot to take that number.
I dunno why they do that, just wanted to let you know that is what was told me re the car and title transfer

Sounds like BS to me with a capital B. You should be able to transfer title without inspection. If it is stolen, it should come up in DMV records. If he is getting the car because of a mechanics lein or something, may be a different story. Tell him to get a good title in his name, search Vin number for stolen, then transfer to you. If he can't do that, then tell him to stick it where the sun don't shine, you don't need that car that bad to cause you heartache and other problems.
