Trying to get brake lights from caravan to trailer

I am towing my boat trailer and using the 4 wire setup. I have a 97 caravan and i assume it has two different wire one for turn signal and one for brakes.... Any idea how to get brake lights to trailer????? All i have on trailer is tail lights and signals. Thanks.

First, consult you dealer and see if it has a "trailer output." AS AN example, my 98 Ranger I bought 2 years ago had been hacked up with a "converter" as it has the separate amber turn and red stop.

Turns out that inside the jump seats was a plug - in trailer connector that would have solved the problem!!! The vehicle has a built in relay/ converter to convert to conventional 4 wire lighting!!

If your vehicle does NOT have this output, you have two choices:

Google/ go to your local trailer supply outfit and buy a "trailer light converter" or install a separate set of stop lamps and run just one more wire up to the front.

These are solid-state boxes that have been around for years, sold by folks like Reese and Valley
