hey guys, i recently got some issues with my car, at morning and cold it fires right up and running perfectly, then if i turns it off, for example on a gas station, it wont start, or have to force if with gas pedal.. and after the warm start, when i set off from stop, it begins to "make small jumps" unless i press the throttle... could this be a bad Ignition Switch? i had some trouble starting it at cold also, some time ago.. Or is it maybe some Electrical issue? or is it because its get to hot in the engine bay ?? i have stainless headers, and i just Wrapped them this morning to help that. I havent drived it yet because it dont have license plates, but what do you guys think???

hope some have experience, i am very new to this American classic world !

Try a heat spacer for the carb maybe a 1" wood or plastic spacer and wrap the fuel lines

Gonna go with TV on this one. Rule out a vapor lock first. Make sure the fuel line isn't running next to a header and and you might try the carb spacer thing.

But ...

First diagnosing the problem might help with a solution.

When the car dies, open the hood, (it makes you look like you know what you're dong ), remove the air cleaner and manually move the throttle. If gas squirts out, that almost rules out vapor lock (fuel starvation), and you have to look at electrical.

Next thing would be to confirm spark. An inductive pick up makes that easy, otherwise you can just pull a plug, ground it and see if it sparks when someone cranks the engine (might a u-tube video on that). Easier to see than explain.

How about having the headlamps on, someone to turn over the ignition key while you look at whether the headlamps go dim, or stay bright during the cranking action. What would one or the other mean?

thanks all for the assist, i will try out the spacer and isolate the fuel line.. i think the gas was/is boiling... it gets enough gas when i open the throttle.. i just hope there is room for the spacer under the hood :P

your motor is suffering from ethanol fuel your getting a vapor lock then a boil over and out of the carb float bowl and then when finally started the fuel is boiling off because of the ethanol.
my old school 318 has an issue with ethanol but real gas like from wa wa i have no problems also make sure your fuel system is sealed if not it will cause vapor lock.
oh yea a spacer also helped
