Question wat is under my hood?

ok guys i have always assumed i had a 318 in my fury but now im not sure..... i was talkin to a guy about the diff between a 318 and a 318 magnum and he showed ne the easy way to tell the difference was the number of bolts that hold the valve cover on... 5 for a normal and 10 for the mag... but mine only has 2... so wat is it? i have pics on my album it has a rear dist so its not a big block.... wat could it be?

You have a polysphere 318 {i have not looked at the album}
they have two bolts holding the valve cover down. Last year was 1966 for the "poly".

Hmmm! always thought the 318 had a 5 bolt valve cover and the 318 poly had 2 bolts in the center of the valve cover! Your pic shows 2 bolts, so i would assume you have a 318 Poly!

alot of the parts interchange between the Polysphere and the LA 318 {means later A engine}. Has the same bellhousing for the transmission {so you can bolt up a "newer" 318 to your trans} the distributor will swap, the crankshaft will swap {poly cranks were forged!!} The timing cover and water pump should swap. the motor mounts will swap. the rods (90% sure) and the carburetor will swap. Or you can keep the poly and upgrade it if you like. You can still get parts for them.

No, the LA heads will not bolt up to the Poly block according to everything that I have read.

Note: I have never personally tried to bolt LA heads to a poly block. I've just heard that it cant be done.

i have a buddy that has a '64 fury with the 318 poly. he built it up quite well..its pretty damned mean. if i remember right...he had his heads reworked at a local machine shop. the hardest part was the cam...think he had to have one made...and he had a hard time finding an intake manifold for it. took him a bit to get all the pieces together and cost him a pretty penny but in the end its a screamer

the poly was discontinued because it got terrible gas mileage, and it wasnt much more powerful than the regular 318

the combustion chamber was round, but the plugs went in from the side
