That would be an Amazing car to own! Is this the rarest hemi car that was built?

I was just doing some studying on '70 coronet's and super bee's. I read in a couple of different places that only 12 hardtop hemi R/T cars were built and only 2 R/T convertible hemis. Could you imagine how amazing that would be to say you own 1 of 12. Or better yet 1 of 2! And that is cutting out all the crap where someone says they have a rare car because it was 1 of 7,240 to have power steering, 1 of 4,580 to have air conditioning and so on til they get it narrowed til its one in like 200 with those exact options. Wonder what a '70 hemi coronet is worth? I knew hemi cars were rare any how but holy crap.... that is beyond rare practically none existant! I read somewhere a long while back that there were only 11,000 hemi cars sold between '64 and '71 and that is all makes and models of vehicles. Are the '70 coronets the rarest of them all?

Quite possible. IIRC, there was a one of one built, but can't remember the model.

Hmmm wonder what it was? I have heard that there was a 68 hemi dart. But I don't know how many their were.

IIRC, the HEMI Darts were a dealer mod on BB GTSs. I don't know if they ever came from the factory with one. Wish I could afford a HEMI....I can think of a certain '68 that would LOVE to have one in it

Speaking of which...anyone still make the Wedge to HEMI conversion heads ( Like the old Stage V )?

There were hemi Darts and B-cuda's in 68 they were not sold for street use, race only and no warranty. I have a pic or two somewhere, I;ll look for them.

I just read about the hemi conversion heads the other day. Yes they are still being made. But not cheap. And can't remember who makes them

Mr 340 is right. Hemis in A-bodies were offered only in 68 in Darts and Barracudas for RACE only. Theres a dash plaque that says "Not for street use".

No window cranks, seat belts were used to pull the windows up and down. 270 door panels in the darts. A-100 van seats.

they were built off the 270 Darts, but with the M code engine code on the VIN


the numbers throw out are: 50 something barracudas and 50 somthing / 70 something hemi darts.

Thinking back, and I can't document it, but there was a story of a 66 Belvedere station wagon, 4 spd hemi, ordered that way, and it was one of one. If I remember right, Big Daddy Don Garlits was chasing the car or ordered the car or had the car, been too many years since I read it, and too many miles on the mind.

I was looking into building one a long while back and comparing the cost next to just buying an actual hemi... You really don't save much. If I remember right it was somewhere around 3,500 for the bare heads then you had to buy the rocker arms and special made gaskets for the heads. I think the rocker arms were somewhere around 1,500 to 2,500 (dont remember been too long, but I do remember it was friggin outrageous lol) Then you had to take you block and have some machining done on it for the heads to fit up. Then of course you gotta buy the dome pistons and all the other good stuff to go with it. lol So your probably better off just buying a good ole 426. Or buying a 392 and dumping a bit of money into it and getting some major power out of it. Unless you just wanna say you have a wedge hemi.... then enjoy the expression on whoever's face your talking to lol.

Thats a good lookin '56 ford in the back ground of that picture lol. I'm not a fan of much anything but mopars but there is something about the '56 ford f100's that I really like.

To answer a couple questions, These (HEMI Darts) are completely accepted as factory built cars. Although Hurst did the final fitting of the Hemi, it was overseen by the factory and done to factory spec's. There were a combination of 77 Darts and Barracudas both fitted with the Hemi. These were ordered through the Dodge dealer and sold to those racers that dodge was sure would race and win with them. This Dart program was very similar to the Factory race Challengers being sold today.

I have more pic's of that car if anyone is interested.
