1968 Blue Plymouth Valiant

Here is is folks! 1968 blue Plymouth Valiant, 225 slant 6, 904 automatic, 7.25 rear axle, 2 door coupe. It only has 77K miles and I am the second owner to this Florida based car.

I would like to find an 8.75 rear axle out of a 66-68 B-body (they bolt right in place), the guy I bought it off of has a friend that has a header and 4 barrel intake for this motor that he is going to beat up (not physically) over and see what he can do for me. If I can get those, then a 500 CFM Edlebrock carb will go on to it and the exhaust will be 2.25" all the way back to a flowmaster Delta 50 series muffler. I've got to install some new floor boards and take care of the scratches and dings. Found a set of small bolt pattern Cragar SS wheels (14x6) so I might get those and a set of 225/60/14 BFG Radial T/A tires. Also might install a rear sway bar, upgrade the power 4 wheel drum brakes to 4 wheel disc for some extra safety and probably throw some poly bushings all around with a good set of shocks.

make that 6 a firebreather! if that is a 2bbl manifold, you can get some good performance out of it. cragar s/s's look awesome on an a-body!

Well I'm not going to tear into the motor as of yet. I'd like to get everything that I need/want to get done done first. But I do plan on seeing what it can do at the local strip the way it is before the add ons.

I have not finshed the J10 yet. That is waiting for spring time and the snow to go away.

The motor in the j10 does not start but it does turn over.

The valiant does start up, runs, drives, and stops!

Someone patched the floor boards a little while back with sheet metal and screws. There is a company that makes floor boards, at a good price, and they fit without mods. The driver's side rear quater behind the tire got patched. It works but it is not pretty. There are some dings and one dent in it, with some sratches. Surface rust is around but it not too bad. It is something that I am willing to tackle myself even though I don't like body work. Mechanically, its all good. I'll be going through it completely tomorrow.

I'll post more pics and whatnot then too.

I really want to keep the 6. They make great power for a car that is only ~2700 pounds and they can be built up to do the quater mile in some reasonable times (There is a local guy one state down pulling 13s with his).

If I was to install a V8, it would be a 340 with a 373 backing it up. Heather's uncle is huge into Mopars and has a build 340 in his son's 70 Cuda that he wants to pull out (Aparently he has a 440 6 pack rebuilt to factory specs ready to be dropped in). But I don't plan on doing that anytime soon as I really want to just cruise in the car.

Good looking car you got. You'll have fun with it no matter what you decide on the engine. I didn't drive my car alot last fall, but when I did it turned alot of heads.

Not that I have found yet, but I haven't really been looking that hard either. I'm sure that there is though. It would be a great upgrade.

like 4 barrel intake, longtube headers, 500 CFM carb, dizzy, high voltage coil, 8.5MM wires, comp cam, sway bars front/rear, 8 3/4 with a spool, built 904 w/shift kit, shocks, etc......

Yeah I know.

at first i had the 904 all rebuilt with a turbo action fully manual reverse pattern valve body - fun, but not as much as with the 3rd pedal. the 1st-2nd shift would chirp the tires and snap some necks.
as far as the rear end - an 8-3/4 will run you quite a bit. the 8-1/4 is just as strong and a fraction of the cost to rebuild. the most expensive part was having the axles drilled for the small bolt pattern and center register turned down for the small bolt pattern brake drums.

I don't mind spending some money as long as its worth it to me and in my mind. There are a couple of local guys that some some 8 3/4 that are just collecting dust. Plus the guy that I bought it from said he has one that he is doing nothing with and will cut me a deal, we'll see about that.
