You let the cable get too close to the exhaust. If you can't route it away from the exhaust pipes/headers, you may have to buy or make a shorter cable.

If I have time I'll measure my cable, but pretty sure it's a 42" cable. It's really important to route your cable away from the headers.

Another option is to hit e-bay and look around. They sell spark plug protective sleeve material in different diameters, and in rolls. You might find some in like a 1/2-3/4 diameter, and instead of cutting it to protect your plugs, use a long piece to cover your cable housing and again, think about your routing and route it away from the headers. Wire ties or even bread ties to keep it in place. Think outside the box

I RUN MINE DOWN OVER THE TOP DOWN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRANY BETWEEN THE DIPSTICK TUBE AND TRANY BODY AROUND THE FRONT UP THE LEFT SIDE TO THE SELECTOR
I USED THE 36 INCH B&M CABLE
GIVES ME PLENTY OF ROOM AROUND THE HEADERS AND THE PIPES
