My 1970 Challenger Project (T/A Clone)
First off, I'm not a mechanic. I am self taught and a lot of trial and error. I think things through and know what I want as an outcome. I have become, as a result, a back yard fabricator and mechanic. It's good therapy to tinker because all day (My real job) I work on people's backs, necks, shoulders and knees. I am a sports chiropractor and have done that for 30 years. Money is real tight with two kids in college, but I do what I can when I can. I also road race my daily driver which is an '06 300 CSRT8.
This is my 1970 Challenger that was painted in the scheme it is now by theprevious owner. Original color was bronze with the engine bay paintedblack. GM Yellow that was same as Corvette. Car came without a motor, a former fair weather Drag Racer thathad a 340 in it but pulled before I bought it. The car came complete with nitrous lines and tank, ditched those ratherquickly. Ditched the Keystone wheels and the tires in favor of MoparRallye Wheels.
Motor: 318 Truck block (4 bolt mains); bored and stroked to343 Forged Crank, Forged rods and pistons ARP Hardware studdedheads ported and polished. Topped off with an Mopar/Edelbrock high risemanifold 1969 Road Runner 4V Oval Air Cleaner sitting atop an Edelbrock/Carter4V Carb.
Trans: 727 with Cheetah Valve body, firm shifts; rebuilt by a friend and patient of mine.
Rear: 8 3/4 @ 3.55:1
Exhaust: 340 Manifolds with custom 2 1/2 all the way back.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Everything above this line is completed.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Body: Need both rear patch panels done and paint to match
Replace mirror, driver's side. I did take the entire engine bay downto bare metal, primed and painted it to match factory overspray. Install T/A Wing, Ditch the GO WING
Interior: Previous owner put in a cloth velour black cloth and ignored theheadliner and carpet. I will probably go Legendary to bring it as closeto stock as possible. Needs a dash too, that's cracked at the speakergrill.
Hood:
Bought an Original T/A Hood but decided against hinges LIFTOFF HOOD
Found the Hood in Hazelton, PA, remember that day well, it was mid November and those crazy hills I lost my brakes on my van and then it started to snow. Some how, I had a quart of fluid with me and kept adding to the Master till we got to level ground and it was a straight shot to NJ, where we don't use brakes at all. Most of us are good at throttle braking!
Brakes: Four Wheel Drum; Bought spindles, power booster, and discs forconversion
I think I posted some of these when I joined the forum. See Pictures below:

my experance is that you CAN have a trans shift TO hard. it has been so long i cant remember very well. but it did center around the fact i had 7 1/4 rear end. so the bigger one you have will most likely hold up. but having tire that would give a little would releave some the pressure on the trans. just my idea.
