383 oil pump problem

hey , new to these forums so bear with me ..
bought a newport with 383, drove it 150 miles, then transplanted motor into a 69 coronet, while trying to start, noticed no oil pressure, pulled distributor and inter shaft , everything good, distrib turns fine , still no oil
fine , we primed pump thru oil galley port on engine untill oil runs out pump , still no pressure, i think maybe relief valve is stuck open.
an thoughts????

You do realize the pump is completely on the outside of the block? This makes removal and inspection easy.

Pickup tube might be cracked

There's a small O ring on the stem you insert into the engine, which will cause loss of pressure. It's been years since I owned a BB/ RB but there used to be a gasket kit avail. from Mopar that included the block-to-pump gasket and this O ring

As shown the oil filter attaches right to the pump. You may have to jack up the motor on one side on some applications, But not at all hard to replace. Its also possible you have a bad sending unit or gauge. I always keep a manual gauge kit at home to test with.
