400 "B" 4 bbl carb question

I have a 1977 Cordoba with a suckie 400 i want more power,

heres my problem, when i move form stop the thing bogs down, i have done every thing i can think of to fix his problem, so far i have

1. had the carb rebuilt (which i still think is the problem)
2. Tune up new cap rotor wires plugs and added a clear inline gas filter (i have a rusty tank, it was parked for a few year before i got it)
3. got rid of the electronic lean burn system and replace it with the module and new distributor (orange box)
4. did a timing chain on it

i can't figure this one out, when your on the highway and you want to kick it down it bogs then picks up and then runs like a dream

what can i do to fix this problem and is there a better carb for this engine someone told the 2bbl holly will work

The 2 Bbl holley will not fit your manafold. Check your vacum advance and mechanical advance weights. Also try setting the timing to earlier BB specs wich should be more advanced. Also check for a vacume leak.

Good advice. I've not followed the later "smogger" engines too much, "it's been awhile."

I certainly would junk that carb, do some research to find out what fits.

Check not only the curve on your distributor, but whether it actually is WORKING (advancing) and "is the curve too slow?"

Bump the timing up to at least 5, maybe 10 BTC, and play with it until it pings.

Vacuum advance probably won't cause this problem, but make sure it works, it will affect mileage.

Not to interrupt, but I have a question about "Till it pings".

Is this something that you can readily hear or something you have to really listen for?

Thank you
Joe.

It will sound like marbles in your engine. Also call preignition.
