440 Build, Input?
440 Build, Input?
So i am starting my 440 build again. Here is what i have on the list:
Mopar .509 Purple Cam
440 Source Stealth Heads
Edelbrock RPM Intake
Factory Rotating Assembly (1968 Forged) Balanced
Factory Forged Pistons
Shumacher Tri-Y 1-7/8 Headers
Edelbrock 800 CFM Carb
Mopar Electronic Ignition
2 questions.
1. What bearings should i use? I want long life (this will not be a race engine) Full or half groove bearings for mains and rods?
2. Out of curiosity, what kind of horsepower do you think i will get from this combo?
Thanks

It looks like the key to this is to find your Comp ratio. I dont know if the pistons are zero-deck, flat tops, dished, or who knows what. And what is the the cc's of the heads? Cr might be good to know before you start selecting a cam. Bearings? Me, I would go with the standard clevite 77's. go to the Comp Cams website and download their Camquest program. It will let you plug in different components and show a tq and hp graph to let you see how they will affect your set-up. Good luck, Scotty.
Stock pistons are flat top. Original heads were the 906 castings with 80cc chambers. The 440 source heads also have 80cc chambers but they are closed chambers. Factory compression ratio i believe was 10.0 : 1 in 1968. Does their program show expected compression ratio after adding a new cam? I want to run on pump gas.

I just downloaded the CamQuest program, it is really cool
Thanks! I just thought i remembered reading a tech article somewhere on half groove vs. full groove bearings but don't remember where or what it said
