61 Plymouth Fury, 1st time here

Hi everyone. I have a 361 ci that I am converting from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel...a fairly easy conversion, I think...? I have the 4 barrel manifold. Question is, does anyone know which carb goes with this manifold to make it correct, and work? It's a Golden Commando Fury 2 door hardtop. (I have a Carter 4 barrel carb but the accelerator linkage is backwards plus the automatic choke linkage doesn't line up with the manifold at all ) Thanks for any help you can offer.

I had a 1962 fury convert. with the golden commando and it used a AFB carter if I remember correctly. Is the carb you have off a mopar ? Because if its off a GM or a Ford the linkage would be wrong. I may have (I'll have to look) a mopar AFB. I for sure have many AVS carbs which are later and may have too large of butterflys. Let me know if you want me to look thru the 30 or so years of collected parts I have.

Bear with me...I'm not sure how to tell what car my Carter came off, as it came in boxes of parts I got for my '64 Windsor. Are there any identifying marks on the carb to distinguish it?
Ok...a bit more info that may help identify my 4 barrel carb..it definitely says Carter AFB, and on the top of the carb is a circled C, a circled R and the numbers 6-1703. On one end, once again the circled R and C and the numbers 0-1431. On the front of the carb, on what is I think called the flange (where the bolts go through to the manifold) is the number/letter combo 3615 S and it looks like a 1 all by itself below that.

I believe a 3515s is an after market 500cfm for a chevy. The mopar version should be a 3516s for a 500 CFM

Thanks Don...I don't feel any clearer because my carb isn't either of those numbers..it's a 3615 s... but I appreciate your help. Eventually I'll get to the bottom of the problem...I hope.

Thanks again Don. That sounds like what I'm hearing elsewhere as well...it's from a 413, and I have heard Max Wedge and even 426 Hemi. So, bottom line is, it doesn't work with my setup. Now my new question is, does anyone know which 4 barrel carb should I be looking for that would be the same as what would have come on a 361 V8 Golden Commando in 1961? (or is the question simply, what 4 barrel carb matches up to the manifold I bought that perfectly mates up with my 361?) Everything I have read glosses over this particular model and doesn't have any specifics. I am amazed how much information you guys on these forums have...you're a real lifeline. I am confident I will figure this out eventually, as long as everyone hangs in there with my questions. Thanks again. Glenn

The one you have should fit your manifold. I'd check and make sure the butterflys have enough clearance to open. The linkage I would think would be the same or similar. Photos of what you have might help us visualize you problem.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all your help. I think I was making life very difficult by being focussed on trying to be as original as possible, but trying to connect all the dots to make this manifold/carb thing work was way too much work...so I bought an Edelbrock Performance Series carb with electric choke that seems to be the ticket...I do appreciate all your imput, and you'll probably see me here again, with the next problem.

Check for butterfly clearance as most of the early 60s manifolds are designed for the smaller butterfly carbs.
