68 polara power steering pump

Hi all and a happy new year,

Hope someone can help. I have recently changed my power steering pump on my 383 polara. The new one fits fine and the only difference in the pump is a very slightly different rear bracket/ reservoir retaining bolt position. Ive adapted the bracket and its fine. Internally the pumps casting is slightly different but all the external connections are identical. The problem I have is with the pump to steering box coupling. Where it enters the pump there is a 90 degree bend, a flared end and a threaded nut that floats on the metal tubing (very similar to a brake pipe). This nut fits the threaded hole in the pump and appears to hold the flared pipe end securely when tight. However, when running, fluid pours out of the connector, between the pipe and the nut, making me think the seat in the pump itself is different. It looks similar but obviously isnt. Does anyone know if there are different hoses between pump and box for different pumps? Parts manual not clear and doesnt show hoses, just pumps and mounting brackets etc...... Anyone any ideas please???

Thanks, steve

Some PS pumps use a small rubber 'O' ring on the flared end where it goes into the pump. Was there one with the new pump kit?

Hi, thanks very much for the quick response!!! Theres nothing in the box but sounds like thats what I need! Take it the seal would go over the pipe rather than just placed in the hole before installation? At least i know what im looking for now!... Many thanks
