727 Torqueflite problem -
I have a '69 Dodge Charger with a 383 and 727 torquflite tranny. We've been restoring it for the past several months. Last week, we finally took it for a few short rides (less than a mile each time). Everything worked fine.
Last night, we hooked up the kickdown linkage. Then the tranny started acting up.
In PARK - it feels like the car is still trying to move forward.
In REVERSE - same thing, moves forward.
NEUTRAL? Nope. Still tries to move forward.
DRIVE and LOW - still moving forward.
So - we unhooked the kickdown linkage... but it didn't fix anything.
I bought the car last Fall and the tranny had just been rebuilt.
It's full of ATF. Not leaking.
Any ideas?

Could be a few things, bands out of adjustment, perhaps there is a problem with the front clutch or the governor. Also check the fluid level in neutral if you check it in park it you will get a wrong reading. It also sounds like a control valve problem. I'd take it back to wherever it was rebuilt and see what they say. Do you think it's possible that they mixed up the springs in the valve body when they rebuilt it.Keep us posted.

It sounds like the shift linkage is not properly hooked up (or has come loose) You need to look under the car (while it is turned off, of course), and move the shifter through the various gears and make sure that the shifter arm on the transmission is moving at the same time. If it is, then the selector on the inside of the transmission has somehow gone out of whack.
You should never leave the kickdown linkage disconnected for any period of time, doing so will greatly shorten the live of the transmission. The kickdown linkage helps regulate shifting and fluid pressure, leaving it disconnected will cause the fluid to burn up, and prematurely wear the friction material on the clutch plates.

Fluid level was fine - I always check it in Neutral.
It wasn't the shifter-linkage.
Dropped the pan - saw the "rooster comb" is moving and engaging as it should.
The only reason the kickdown linkage was off, is because we just put everything back in the car -

I have a question
I have a 1965 Satellite 383/727 combo. On the drivers side of the transmission there are what appears to be two vacuum lines or maybe pressuer lines. They sit just above the top of the trans oil pan, what are those for?
Thanks
Dave

Could be cooler lines, but mine are on the passenger side! Only thing on the drivers side of mine, are the kickdown linkage and the shift cable!
