The other day the I went to tun on the wipers for my 78 d-100 and I just heard a distinct click, and then nothing. I manually moved the wipers to see if they we stuck or just bound up somehow, but they moved freely. Now I hear a click every 15 to 20 second coming from under the dash, even with the wipers turned off. It sounds like a some kind of breaker or relay turning on an off.
Before I pull everything apart or purchase a new wiper motor I wanted to see if there a simple explanation or solution for this.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

the only thing I can think of is that one of the plastic grommets might have broken on your wiper linkage. and for some reason the lack of it has caused a noise while driving. When does it do what you are describing? While driving? While idling? Wipers on? Wipers off? dodge trucks are also notorious for having under the dash wiring problems too, (the gauges especially). Are your gauges working correctly?
The sound is happening as long as the truck is started even with the wiper switch in the off position. There seems to be no other electrical issue. When I turn the wipers on, I do not hear or feel the wiper motor turning. I am guessing that there is a relay that is clicking on and off( something to keep the motor from burning out if the wipers are stuck from ice). Is there such a thing and where would it be located?
Alright! I narrowed the clicking sound down to the wiper switch. I supposed that it has a relay in it that opens if it has too much resistance( it was warm). I removed and tested the switch with the multi-meter and it seem to be working properly.
So, the next question is there anything else that could go wrong besides that motor burning out?
I would be surprised if the motor went bad, it had been working just fine earlier in the day, and it simply just wouldn't come on the next time.

I'll bet it is the wiper motor. They can go out just like that. The clicking might br the noise made by the motor short-circuiting. I'm surprised that the fuse has not blown. you could try hot wiring the wiper motor just to see if it makes it work. It might be something to do with the auto-park feature or the low/high speed wiring of the wiper motor. Make sure you have a fuse in your jumper wire. It would be kind of like a bench test of the motor. other than that, I cannot think of any reason it would not work. There are no relays for the wipers that I can think of. (a relay would "click" though) Bad ground? I dunno... good luck.
