Exclamation 79' Aspen rear bumper.

Hi. i got a question for ya. I wonder what the rear bumper safety system is called? I think it's supposed to work like a horisontal shock absorber? Someone told me it was supposed to withstand a collision in 3-5 mph but i don't know. i marked it in red. i wanna know how it works. is there a way to adjust them?

Is called in the energy absorber that collapses with a impact. If thay stayed in after a bump you could push or pull them back out.

The struts has a gas/oil charge in them and will come back out. If there was a leak in them you could push them in. Do not use heat on them! Do not drill them!

Check on like E-Bay or over at For A Bodys only. I think someone is making a bracket kit to move the bumper bar closer to the body?

If you can fabricate I would remove the crash bar and make standard brackets and remove the energy absorbers altogether. This saves a hundred pounds easily.
