84 D100 225 Slant Six problems

Hey, I have a 84 225 Slant Six with the stock one bbl carb. The engine will run ok for about 2mins and then wont idle unless I'm feeding it fuel OR it will idle ok but it has zero power and when I start to give it gas it starts to rev up but the quickly acts like its going to bog down an die (when it does that it won't run unless i have the air cleaner on and tightened down). I've replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel lines (about a year ago), pcv valve, pcv filter canister, and rebuilt the carb about a year ago. the vacuum pump is working correctly (i tested that from a line coming off the carb). Any help would be most appreciated. by the way the replacements or rebuilds were because of this problem and because the thing get 8-12mpg.

have you checked for vacuum leaks?

X2 on the vacuum leak. Have you given it a tune up as well?

try the filter again

Did it do this before you rebuilt the carb? "1 year ago"?..How many miles on the motor?

It has over 120,000mi on it and it was doing it before the carb rebuild. I haven't driven it much after rebuilding the carb since I was away in the military but it was having the same prob before the fuel filter replacement.

Inspect all the vacuum lines. Any cracks, even the smallest ones, replace the line.

I've been looking for leaks and cracked vacuum line and so far haven't found anything. Any idea's? maybe a leak between cylinders? it also seems to blow oil into the air cleaner.

Are you sure that you have teh right PCV valve?

Alos, if you are blowing oil into the air filter, you may have blow-by around a piston ring or valve. What does the compression look like across all of the cylinders?

Leak down test is your friend.

ok, compression is normal not great but enough. I'm about to just rebuild the entire engine.
