904 transmission

i have a 318 with a 904 transmission. i had some question about the transmission. its about to go and i was wondering how good these transmissions are i plan on getting a 340 6 pack and was wondering if the 904 would stand up to that or if i should go with a 727 since i have to take the 904 out anyway to rebuild it

its really up to the owner ive seen some pretty stout 904s hooked up to 340's and 360s with todays performance parts and 727's are pretty good from the start but dont you need to rebuild the 904 anyways? heck put a A-833 4spd behind it

The 904 is a good tranny. In my opinion though, I believe that the 727 is just better. There are more performance and build up parts for it out on the market today.

The 904 is a tough trans when built right and it weights less then the 727 , but like 78 says the parts are a little harder to get but not impossible so if i was going to rebuild i would go with the 904 , take a little bit of time and money and you will be glad you did
