I can't help you out with the other stuff, but about the cam. what type of drive are you going to be doing? Do you have a stall convertor or a regular convertor in the tranny? That will make a difference when choicing the right cam.

I am basiclly going for the same setup as you with the exhaust, intake, carb and ignition, except I'm building a 78 d200 with a reman long block. Are you running an electric choke or manual on your carb?

I would go onto summit racing and take alook to see what they have for that type of driving and look at the RPM range of the cams. Thats what I did and it took me about 3 days before I finailly decided on one.

the 302 heads would work great on the 318. no new pushrods needed. The carb will work fine.

You can mill .040 and with a 0.40 head gasket your comp. Shoul be around 10.1 ith stock bore and pistons. Any more off the heads and you'll change the geom.

We put this cam in one of our 318's great pull and purrs like a kitten.
http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...ookieSupport=1 Changed springs with their recommendation. They have a program called Camquest 6, plug in your combo
and it gives you cam recommendations. The 302's will give you .5-.75 comp
increase. Do not put the 2.02" valve in the 318, the smaller bore shrouds the valve
(edge of valve to close to cylinder wall not allowing air to pass by) 1.88"+1.60"
are a great improvement. Your 600cfm size is bang on, I like vacum secondaries for
automatics. If you go with more than .450" lift on any 318 head have guide to retainer clearance checked. These engines can make loads of power in the upper
RPM's with a bigger cam but you will need higher number rear gears to take advantage of it. If you over cam these engines with lower number gears it will
be a mutt out of the hole. Trust me on this one. It's all about port velocity with
318's.
